Event Id :
458
Event Name :
Popsicle Bridge
Event Brief :
Participants are required to construct a bridge using popsicle sticks provided by the event coordinator on the day of the event, designed to safely carry the maximum possible load while adhering to the given constraints.
No material cost will be borne by the participants.
Judging is based on strength, efficiency, design, and aesthetics.
Team size: 2–4 students
Materials Allowed:
✔ Popsicle / Ice-cream sticks (standard size only)
✔ Adhesive:
Fevicol / Wood glue (preferred)
Bridge Specifications (Recommended):
Span length: 60 cm
Maximum width: 10–12 cm
Maximum height: 15–20 cm
Bridge must be self-supporting
Construction Rules:
Bridge must be constructed on-spot.
No pre-fabricated joints allowed.
Bridge must be one single unit (no detachable parts).
Only glue joints allowed.
Loading & Testing Rules:
Load will be applied gradually at the center of the span.
Loading method:
Bucket with sand / weights
Loading stops when:
Bridge collapses
Excessive deformation occurs
Organizer decides structure has failed
Event Coordinator :
Prof. Jay Kalaria
Student Coordinator :
Hemang Mori and Vijay Odedara
Event Date and Time :
Date: 4th & 5th February
Time: 10:30 am to 2 pm
Location :
MB002
Rules / Guidelines / Judging Criteria For
Popsicle Bridge
- Judging Criteria :
Judging Criteria:
Maximum Load Carried (Primary – 70%)
Higher load = higher score
Structural Efficiency (20%)
Efficiency = Maximum Load (kg) / Weight of Bridge (kg)
Rule Compliance & Presentation (10%)
Proper dimensions
Explanation by team
Tie-Breaker Rules:
Higher efficiency
Lower bridge weight
Disqualification Criteria:
Use of prohibited materials
Dimensions exceeding limits
Unsafe behavior during testing
External support during loading
